Smart Tax Tip
Charitable Donations
Donation made to registered charities are eligible for a tax credit that reduces
the taxes you have to pay.
Without exception, donation may be claimed only after they are paid. Pledges do
not count. Unused claims may be carried forward for five years and donations made
in the year of death may be carried back one year.
The general annual limit on charitable donations as a percentage of net income is
now 75% of net income. However, the limit on gifts by individuals in the year of
death (and prior year) is 100%.
The federal tax credit is 16% on the first $200 of donation claimed in the year,
and 29% on the amount in excess of $200. After factoring in the provincial tax savings,
donations in excess of $200 will save you anywhere from 39% to just under 49% (depending
on your province of residence).
Planned Giving
Choosing the right Planned Giving Options
As part of your long-term financial planning, a planned gift can offer you substantial
tax and estate planning benefits and allow you to make a larger and more lasting
gift to the B.C. Muslim Association.
There are several ways you can plan to make gifts to the B.C. Muslim Association.
The option(s) you choose depends on your unique circumstances and financial objectives.
Bequest
Make a gift of cash or property by including the B.C. Muslim Association as a beneficiary
in your will. It’s one of the simplest Planned Giving options to arrange and it
can significantly reduce the tax paid by your estate. If you want your estate to
be handled according to your wishes, you should have a will. Without a Will, a public
trustee decides on the disposition of your possessions.
Gift-in-kind
A gift-in-kind is a gift of property such as real estate, securities, artwork, jewelry
or collectibles. After independent appraisals, the B.C. Muslim Association will
issue you a tax receipt.
Endowment Fund
An endowment fund is a donation which is invested, with the earnings generated on
the principal used to support the B.C. Muslim Association’s work. You can let, the
B.C. Muslim Association decide where the earnings are most needed or designate an
area. If you desire, your gift to the B.C. Muslim Association Endowment Fund can
be named in your honour in recognition of your support. Or, you may choose to name
your gift in memory of a special person.
Charitable Reminder Trust
Your gift of cash or other property is used to establish a trust. You receive the
income from the trust, according to the terms set out when it is established, and
a receipt for the remainder. The B.C. Muslim Association receives whatever remains
in the trust after your death

Mosque is a place of worship, spontaneous and ceaseless praise, and a place where people gather to remember the Divine. Its significance not only limited to remembrance, but in the fact that the remembrace is done in a gathering. It also enable welfare of the community, gives an opportunity to care for others and to love one another. Mosque becomes a powerful and practical implementation of "love thy neighbors" commandment. In the time of the Prophet, mosque was the central place of social welfare, activism and care giving to those who were in need. A mosque facilitates and promotes worship of One God and therefore fosters a personal bond of love and devotion between man and his God. A mosque is essentially a first step towards fostering unity and brotherhood amongst people and consequently, a powerful force in our endeavors to unite mankind. The original arabic word, Masjid meaning any place where you do 'sajda' (prostration) before God Almighty. In Sajda or prostration the forehead touching the ground as practiced in Salat or prayer. Prophet Muhammad said: When a person leave his earthly body, all his or her actions terminate but three: 1. Knowledge through which people benefit, 2. Sadaqa Jaariyya (recurring charity), and 3. Pious child who makes dua or supplication for the parents. And building of Mosque falls into the Sadaqa Jaariyya or recurring / continuous charity because as long as people come for Divine Remembrance and worship, the merits and blessings are sent to the ones who were behind building the mosque. Sadaqa and Charity in the Qur'an The importance of charity is mentioned many times in the Qur'an. One such verse is: "Give to the near of kin his due, and also to the needy and the wayfarers. Do not squander your wealth wastefully; for those who squander wastefully are Satan's brothers, and Satan is ever ungrateful to his Lord." (17:26-27) Rewards for Giving Charity Giving sadaqa will not diminish a Muslim's wealth. It serves as expiation for sins and yields rewards in the next life. Allah says: "For those who give in charity, men and women, and loan to Allah a Beautiful Loan, it shall be increased manifold (to their credit), and they shall have (besides) a liberal reward."(Qur'an 57:18). And, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "To give something to a poor man brings one reward, while giving the same to a needy relation brings two: one for charity and the other for respecting the family ties." (Ahmad and Tirmidhi)

Charity Grows in Benefit -- Qur'an (2:261)
The parable of those who spend of their substance in the way of Allah is that of a grain of corn: It grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allah gives manifold increase to whom He pleases; And Allah cares for all and He knows all things.

Bukhari Revelation Volume1 Book1
I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. So whoever emigrated for worldly benefits or for a woman to marry, his emigration was for what he emigrated for."
