The Richmond Jamea Masjid was established in 1984 (1404 Hijri) and was the first Jamea Masjid in the province of British Columbia, Canada. The Masjid, located along a major highway, has since become a symbol of the presence of Islam and Muslims in this part of the world. The Masjid complex houses the Masjid and BC Muslim school facilities, serving the religious and educational needs of a significant portion of the Sunni Muslims of the Greater Vancouver area. However, the Masjid area is now heavily overcrowded and the Masjid capacity to serve the local Muslims is decreasing due to the exponential growth in the number of Muslims. This is evident on Fridays, during Ramadan and other occasions. There is an urgent need to expand the Masjid facility.
Last opportunity to expand the Masjid property
The Masjid property is located along a major highway and is completely surrounded by a growing number of churches and temples. Currently, the Masjid property is accessed only from a side road and is completely land-locked. The surrounding area has been developed and a number of churches and Hindu, Sikh and Buddhist temples were built. The only reaming undeveloped track of land is now for sale. This track of land provides the ONLY opportunity for us to expand the Masjid property and to have an access to the major road on which all the surrounding churches and temples are located.
How You Can Help
The BC Muslim Association is seeking $3.5 million to purchase and develop the last available track of land for the purpose of expanding the Richmond Jamea Masjid property. We invite you to support this noble project. With your donation, the BCMA will expand the current facilities in the Richmond Masjid to insure that the current and future needs of the local Muslim population are met.
