Project Update September 19, 2012
Alhamdolillah, the construction of a new Masjid in Victoria is nearing completion. Ground Breaking Ceremony was held on February 3rd, 2012 with Project Start Up and Safety Meeting held on February 6th. After service disconnection, Hazmat Material Abatement and other formalities, demolition of the two old houses that served as a Masjid started on February 10th scheduled completion November 1st, 2012.
A number of issues sub surface led to delays in getting off the ground, but the contractor has made up for lost time through innovative project management and working closely with myself, Br. Kathrada, Management of the Victoria Branch and the Architect. We are 2 weeks ahead of schedule, the official Turn Over will be mid October Insha Allah.

I’d like to thank everyone that worked on this project, especially the Board of Directors, Management of Victoria Construction Committee, BCMA, the people of Victoria and other areas in the design, commitment and collecting funds to make this a success.
Our committed scheduled monthly payments to the General Contractor and others have been met; we now have to focus on collecting funds to pay off the loan in order for BCMA to focus on other projects in planning.
Please contribute towards building the House of Allah, this is Sadaka Jariah, for as long as the Masjid is there, anyone that comes to pray in it or receives Dini Taleem, you will be rewarded here and the hereafter- Ameen.
Donations can be made at any Branch or Chapter of the BCMA, marked to Victoria Project. A tax deductible receipt will be provided.

Alhumdulillah, the Muslim community in Victoria has grown sharply in recent years and we are now at a stage where there is a pressing need to either enlarge the existing Masjid or to purchase a property and build a new Masjid. Our current facilities do not meet the requirements of the community.
The Project Committee
The Victoria branch of the BCMA has formed a committee to manage the reconstruction project. This committe held its first meeting on 22nd of August, 2009. Its mandate is to take the reconstruction project forward and its completion in a cost effective manner in the best interest of the local muslim community of Victoria. Currently this committee is made up by the following members:
Chair: Mr. Mahomed kathrada
Secretary: Mr. Ahmed Vawda
Treasurer: Mr. Salah Awadallah
Member: Mr. Ali Hammado

A fundraising committee is also formed to help the project committee in much needed fundraising efforts. Following are members of the fundraising committee:
|

Rebuilding Project
Insha Allah the existing Masjid at 2216 & 2218 Quadra Street, Victoria will be re-developed into one large unit by incorporating two existing, adjoining properties. Architectural design has been completed with the new structure comprising three levels, a basement, the main floor and a mezzanine area. Collectively these three levels will adequately provide prayer space to meet our needs. In addition to separate prayer facilities for men and women, the plan provides for a storage area, a kitchen, an office and an activity room.
The estimated cost of the new project is $1.56 million CAD, an amount that is far in excess of what the local Muslim community can provide. We are therefore obliged to seek financial assistance from our brothers and sisters both nationally and internationally.
The Board of the Association has formed a committee to manage the project. Insha Allah, with Allah’s assistance and guidance the project will commence in earnest as soon as sufficient funds are raised. We anticipate a 6 to 8 month construction period thereafter.
